The Music Ministry at St. Michael's includes Choirs (adult, teen,
and children), Cantors, Instrumentalists, and directors. During
the summer months, it supports a "pick-up" choir and
a musical stage production. The Ministry is open to all people
who have an ear for music, and a willingness to commit to rehearsal
and to learn about their faith. If you have been looking for a
venue to use to your gifts, as well as serve your Lord, Music
Ministry might just be for you!

Individual Music Ministry Areas
Cantor Ministry
The ministry of the cantor comes to us from the Jewish tradition
of sun prayer leadership. Cantors are the primary leaders of sung
prayer at all Masses, especially during the Proclamation of the
Responsorial Psalm. Cantors must study the liturgy, have some
vocal training, and be at seasonal workshops. Cantors serve with
choirs as well as at Masses without a choir.
Rehearsal is on your own, and must be arranged with an accompanist.
Seasonal workshops for learning new music are required. Other
workshops for development of your craft are offered through the
Archdiocese, and are recommended, but not required. Please call
Penny Shuster at 303-690-6797 for information.
Accompanist Ministry
The role of the accompanist at Mass is very important, as they
set the pace and the tone of the music. An accompanist is more
than a good piano player or organist. They must know their craft
very well, know the liturgy, and be prepared for anything! Accompanists
must be willing to rehearse on their own, and if they accompany
a choir, at those rehearsals as well. If they do not accompany
a choir, they must be able to set up a time to rehearse with their
cantor. Seasonal workshops to learn new music are required. Accompanists
must audition for the Director of Music. Please call Penny Shuster
at 303-690-6797 for information.
Instrumentalists
The addition of different instruments to the liturgy can enhance
the prayer experience of the faithful. We at St. Michael's are
very blessed to have many wonderful guitarists, flautists, drummers,
and string and bass players. If you are interested in using your
gifts at St. Michael's in this capacity, Please call Penny Shuster
at 303-690-6797 for information.
St. Michael's Players
St. Michael's Players are a group of actors, musicians, technical
support, and just plain fun people who put on a summer musical
production each year., Auditions for the summer musical are usually
the third week of April, and the performances are usually the
last weekend of July. In past years we have performed Fiddler
on the Roof, Annie, Hello Dolly, Once Upon a
Mattress and Bye Bye Birdie.
This is an excellent program for the parish community to have
a fun-filled summer activity. The summer musical is open to all
ages,
